1.1 Today is the day

Black clouds smothered the sky. Rain shot down like bullets from the sky, puncturing holes in rooves and the greenery in people's back gardens.  The washing machine-like wind, ripped out trees with  roots and attacked any innocent citizen in its way.
A boy named Cairo, and his mother sat on a polka dot couch, patiently waiting for the storm to wear off. The television set was fortunately working. Cairo lay on his mother's comforting laps watching some cartoons, while she ruffled his brown hair. These days were very special to Cairo. The days when school wasn't on and his mom had a day off at work. His mother could barely afford the rent. As a single parent, she had only one choice to keep her family healthy, and to be accommodated. She had to work a lot to earn her wages. She took night switches a lot, so she could spend her time with Cairo. Unfortunately, Cairo had 8 hours of school to attend. He was enrolled in a private school. His grandfather left him money to be accepted in this school, so he got a good education.
Cairo's father was a total opposite of his ex-wife. He left Elaine (Cairo's mum) when he found out she was pregnant. He was a coward, a cheater. He only indulged himself in the 'easy' business.

Cairo tried to be the best son as possible, and Elaine tried to be the best mom as possible.
"Hey little one." Elaine called out to her son. She turned the oil lamps back on. "Will I go read you a bedtime story? The storm will last for a while, maybe you'll have no school tomorrow!" She muttered in a croaky voice. Her throat was sore as an effect of the cold.

He nodded obediently, scurrying off into his room while his mother lit the fire, made him tea and picked out a book.
Laying on his mom's bed, Cairo re-played the day's contents, watching them like a movie that had just been shown in the theater.
He savoured every moment, enjoying every little detail. It was a pleasant day dream. It took his mom quite a bit to get ready. Not wasting any time, he got dressed into a warm fluffy pyjamas, and prepared his school books for the next school day. To his surprise, it took his mother even longer. Maybe she went outside to fetch something? Or went to the toilet? It never took her this long to get ready. He hurried over to the door, and as if on queue, he heard a petrified scream. A scream of a young woman. His mam.
Flames devoured the little shack called his house. Cairo made it. His mother hadn't.

---

"Snap out of it!" Cairo scolded himself. "You're 19. You have to stop grieving."
Cairo focused his mind on the fact that he's leaving the awful nun convent he had to live in for 13 years. He was excited to start life a fresh. His mom had left him a few perks in her will. Even if it wasn't too much, Cairo respected that. He received a chunk of money, and his mom's belongings.
He had lost control of his life, so he'd been moved to this ancient nun convent. It supplied of strict rules. He'd lost his enrollment in the Private school because he had no one to pay for him. So he didn't make it to college. That was only what set his mind in misery.
After the cab had pulled up, Cairo walked out thanking the driver and collected his baggage. He strolled through several blocks, until he reaches his house. It wasn't anything big. The walls were brick and wood made, a big window over looked on the street, and he had a fairly big garden to gaze at the beaches.
He gripped his keys and slipped them in the door and twisted so he could enter. The house itself was empty. Nothing too impressive, but at least the rent was not such a biggie. Slowly un-packing, Cairo paced up and down the hall, placing stuff to his liking. He realised he doesn't have enough food or furnishing. He sighed.
From his backpack he took out a catalog. He flicked through the pages and highlighted what he wanted and didn't.

It was getting hot. After all it was Summer. ' think I might go to the beach.' He thought silently to himself. "go exploring!" He chuckled, looking down. He realised that he was wearing his grandfather's shirt. He was an explorer, visited many places. He gave this to Cairo years back. Like he knew he was going to die soon.
 ---
Taking advantage of the Summer, Cairo headed out to the beach for a swim. The serene beauty of Sunset Valley astounded him. He was only allowed here a few times. Nuns made a strict deal of chores and curfew.
The gentle water lapped in a melody that sang in Cairo's ears. The crystal clear water was calling him to jump in.
He stripped to his swimming gear, and galloped like an excited horse into the sea. The refreshing wave of cool, glorious sea water took him in.
He swam Out as far as he could, Enjoying himself like never. He felt like a little kid, who has nothing to worry about because he was taken by his parents.
"Ehem" A familiar voice announced. The voice of a girl who made his heart beat 100 times faster. Like honey was being spilled down his throat. The girl who he has had a massive crush on since the day he met her.
Nadine Anderson.
He swam over to her, her golden hair fell over her shoulders, contrasting her beautiful emerald eyes.

Nadine Smith, was his best friend since Primary school. They took care of each-other. Her mother died too, of some 'sickness'. Now she lives with her father. They understand each other, and could read each other like a book. No secret could not be shared.

except for the fact, that, that Cairo loved this girl.

He invited her along to swim away with him. They had great fun. Amazing it felt to be with her.
Little did they know, that they were being watched.
The End.
